Ferias and Fiestas

- Semana Santa or Easter week usually involves a procession

- 1st May (May day) Dia de trabajador is a bank holiday in Spain just like in England

- The festival of San Isidro on the 15th of May celebrates the patron saint of farmers and a procession is led through the streets usually with animals such as cows and horses. The fair also comes to town near the football ground with "casetas" which are night clubs in a tent. These are open will into the early  hours of 6/7am.

- 23rd June, "San Juan" Bonfires and parties on the beach, best place is playa del Cristo on the west side of Estepona in front of Urbanisation Seghers. At the stroke of midnight, everone enters the water to wash their feet as a tradition. Well worth going to!

- First week in July is Estepona Feria, this brings the "day feria" or "feria del dia" where most people are off work and drink in the town or port by day, and go out to the fair by night. The fair is located in the Market ground right next to the football stadium. There are usually some good rides for all ages, and for later on, "casetas" which are makeshift nightclubs in tents! The night usually goes on until 7am where 'Churros' are then available for a snack before bed (and starting all over again).

- 16th July Virgen del Carmen, the patron saint of fisherman in Estepona. There is a procession where the townspeople carry the VIrgen around town, eventually ending up on the beach (around 7pm) where they cast her off to sea. Many lucky people who have boats gather on the beach ready to follow the virgen along the coast.
